Roland Szentpali and Ryunosuke Abe
Roland Szentpali is increasingly known throughout the world as "the Mozart of the Tuba" for his profound musicality and virtuosity on the Tuba in combination with the musical genius inherent in his many and diverse musical compositions. As a soloist, he has performed recitals and solos with prestigious orchestras and wind bands throughout Europe and North America.

Roland Szentpali plays a Meinl-Weston 45S-LP F-Tuba. Ryunosuke Abe performs on a Meinl-Weston 551 Bb-Euphonium.

Roland SzentpaliRoland Szentpáli, born in Nyíregyháza (Hungary).

Roland began playing the euphonium at the age of twelve, moving on to the tuba in the following year under the guidance of Sandor Lukács. He was a student at the Béla Bartok Academy in Budapest from 1991-1995, studying with Joseph Baszinka and Gábor Adamik.
Roland continued his studies with Lászlò Szabò at the F. Liszt Academy. On the international scene, Roland has attended courses held by Roger Bobo, Mel Culbertson, Manfred Hoppert, and Sam Pilafian and has been the recipient of numerous scholarships for study abroad.

Among his numerous successes in solo competitions, the most notable are his recent first prizes at the Lahti International Brass Competition in Finland (2001), the International Performer's Competition in Brno, Czech Republic (2000), and the International Tuba Competition in Cheju, Korea (2000). He was also awarded second prize at the prestigious Markneukirchen International Tuba Competition in 2000, and has also been a prize winner at other competitions, including TubaMania (Australia, 1999), Geubwiller International Tuba Competition (France, 1998).

Roland is also very active as a composer, having written many works for tuba, chamber ensemble and orchestra in a broad variety of styles. In February of 1994, he performed his own Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra in Budapest for live television broadcast. His music has been played and recorded by the Hungarian Radio Orchestra and the Orchestra Hungarian Music Academy Bela Bartok. His recent solo CD" I Killed my Lips" includes four of his own compositions.

Apart from his busy solo and composition schedule, Roland does freelance tuba work and plays in the National Radio and Television Youth Orchestra of Hungary.

1995……….Took 2nd prize in the international competition of "I.T.E.C. (International Tuba Euphonium Conference)" young artist division in Chicago (U.S.A.).
Participated in "Interlochen Music Arts Camp" in Michigan (U.S.A.).
1996-1998
Began to study the Euphonium and the Trombone under Mr. Mel CULBERTSON at Conservatoire National de Région de Perpignan(France).
1999………Played in the "l'Orchestre National de Bordeaux-Aquitaine" as extra player.
2000………Participated in "European Youth Wind Orchestra" and played under maestro Jan COBER while on a concert tour of Portugal.
Took 3rd prize in the 1st International Brass Competition Euphonium division in Jeju (South Korea).
2000-2002
Played with string orchestra "Camerata" as soloist many times under Mr. Daniel TOSI.
2001………Played in the "l'Orchestre National de Bordeaux-Aquitaine" as extra player.
Gave master-class with Mr. Mel CULBERTSON in Alicante(Spain).
Played with "l'Orchestre Symphonique Canet Roussillon Méditerranée" as soloist under Mr. Michel LEFORT.
Participated in "Lahti Brass Festival" and "I.T.E.C.(International Tuba Euphonium Conference)" in Lahti (Finland).
2001-2002
Assistant professor of Conservatoire National de Région de Perpignan.
2002………Played with "Milli Reasurans Chamber Orchestra" as soloist under maestro Emin Guven YASLICAM in Istanbul (Turkey).
Played with "Cukurova State Symphony Orchestra" as soloist under maestro Emin Guven YASLICAM in Adana (Turkey).
Successful solo recital with piano in Ehime (Japan).
Finalist in the 2nd International Brass Competition Trombone division in Jeju (South Korea).
Took 3rd prize in the 2nd International Brass Competition Euphonium division in Jeju (South Korea).
Participated in "European Youth Wind Orchestra" and played under maestro Jan COBER while on a concert tour of Italy.
2003............Played in "Rundfunk-Blasorchester Leipzig".
Present…….Living in Nyíregyháza and playing in solo recital, symphony orchestra, symphonic wind band and brass
Ensemble.
