The reaction to the recent launch of the new Meinl-Weston F-Tuba has been nothing short of phenomenal. This mid to large-sized piston F gives the player the facility to produce a full, rich Tuba sound, together with excellent control across the whole range and unrivalled intonation, making the 45 S-LP the best all-round piston F-Tuba money can buy.

Even more impressive is the method of development Meinl-Weston chose with the 45 S-LP. The majority of the early development processes took place via computer imagery at the Meinl-Weston factory in Bavaria, and together with the experience and extensive Tuba know-how of the Meinl-Weston technicians, the idea for a new kind of Tuba was born.

Warren Deck testing 45 S-LPOf course, Meinl-Weston are blessed with some of the finest Tuba players in the world as endorsers and consultants, including Warren Deck (the photo shows him testing one of the first models in the Meinl-Weston / Melton factory in Geretsried, Germany) and Sam Pilafian from the USA, and Mel Culbertson, Uli Haas and Heiko Triebener from Europe.

All of these fine musicians were involved in the later development and testing stages of the 45 S-LP, and all were full of praise for the hottest new “F” on the market. Here’s what the players are saying about the 45 S-LP:

"It has been a long time since I have been so genuinely excited and impressed with an instrument. This is without a doubt the best large F-Tuba I have ever played. The intonation is outstanding. The power and breadth of sound throughout the registers is impressive. The low register is remarkably open, solid and has an excellent response. The efforts of your team have resulted in what I believe is the best new F-Tuba to enter the market in years. Congratulations!!"

“...the 45 S-LP has a great tonal range, together with superior intonation... If I was travelling doing recitals and excerpt, and could only take one Tuba, it would be this Tuba... ...once this Tuba is released into the U.S., everybody will want one...”

"...the new 45 S-LP successfully combines the virtuosi advantages of the piston valve, with the traditional, vibrant characteristic sound of Melton / Meinl-Weston....the stable, open, powerful lower register of the instrument, combined with the sheer ease of the high range makes the Meinl-Weston 45 S-LP a Tuba which suits both the soloist and the orchestral player...”

“...the more I play this Tuba, the more I love it! The range is great, the intonation is superb, and the sound is amazing!!..this is a great horn...”

“...what still impresses me with the 45 S-LP is the direct response in all dynamic levels, combined with excellent intonation without compromising a big, full sound. The 45 S-LP is very flexible and allows easy slurring. It provides a remarkable tonal foundation for the Trombone section, and blends well with the String double bass section of the Orchestra...”
